Friday news from Sister Lydia 9-30-22

We have had a very productive and happy week here at Sacred Heart and it isn't quite over--tomorrow evening, the Parents' Association's Denim and Diamonds Dance for daughters in grades K-5 and their favorite guys will be held in the gym from 5-7 pm.  This afternoon's Walk-a-Thon was eagerly anticipated all week by the children. (One first grader, at 8:30 this morning, described it as "the most exciting day of the year!"  He will be jumping up and down for a week before Fun Day in June!)

BAND

Band starts Wednesday! You will get an email from Mrs. Hawes with the schedule of lessons.

NWEA

NWEA MAP testing is finished. The results will be sent home in mid-October as will progress reports. All students will receive a progress report for the first term.

PA Update:

Today's Walk-a-Thon was a lot of fun for the children. Many thanks to the Parents' Association, parent volunteers, and teachers! Hopefully, the afternoon lived up to the expectation of that first grader we spoke to this morning! It was an extremely well-executed event and the children had a blast. I've heard reports of children doing 28 laps--if you are the lucky parent or grandparent of that child and you pledged a donation by the lap, you may need to go to the ATM this weekend. (A black and pink, size 7/8 NorthFace fleece was found on the field and can be picked up on Monday.) STEM Night on Wednesday was a lot of fun too with everything from secret messages in invisible ink to dancing raisins to 'sink or float' to math and strategy games and everything in between. Thank you to parent Nicole Sykes, students from the NJHS, Mrs. Chick, Mrs. Harris, and the PA for a fun evening!

Prayer and Pledge:

Mrs. Gustafson's Fifth Graders led the school in Morning Prayer and Pledge this week. They did a beautiful job leading the school and they were very brave. I'm proud of them! Next week Mrs. Connelly's Fourth Graders will do the honors. Thank you to our Sixth Graders for raising and lowering the flag each day.

Soccer:

This awesome Soccer season continues! Thank you to Mr. Norman, all the coaches, and volunteers who give their time so generously!

Reminder: Students change to winter/regular uniforms on October 11th. I know there are still issues for some families. We are working with the uniform company to resolve those issues to your satisfaction.

SCHOOL PHOTOS: October 12th

October 4th is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. The prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (Prayer for Peace) is one of my favorite prayers. The anonymous text is a widely known Christian prayer for peace. Although associated with Saint Francis of Assisi (c. 1182 – 1226), it is entirely absent from his writings. We pray for peace in our world, in our homes, as well as in our hearts and minds. It is crucial that we impress upon our children the power of prayer and turning our troubles over to God.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Have a wonderful weekend with your precious children.  They are a gift to us here at Sacred Heart.
