Weekly news from Mrs. Chick 9-16-22

Thank you to all who attended last night's Welcome Night, it was nice to talk with so many families. We value your commitment to Sacred Heart and your child’s education. This year’s focus is to create a partnership with you and to support your child in their educational journey. Below please find some notes from last night's talk as well as some reminders for next week.

The Lynch Early Childhood Initiative

  • Is aligned with the Massachusetts State Standards and is research based

  • The program focuses on vocabulary and comprehension for reading readiness to prepare for Kindergarten.

  • This play-based program is very intentional in how the centers are set up, ensuring good use of appropriate vocabulary, as well as meaningful discourse between children, and between the child and their teacher.

  • Play is always modeled by the teachers.

  • The teachers participated in an intensive summer institute in Boston which introduced them to the new curriculums.

  • In preschool and prek we are excited to adopt Handwriting without Tears, The OWL and Focus Reading programs as well as Building Blocks for math.

  • The toddler curriculum focuses on developing social relationships promoting self help skills and is the precursor to preschool.

  • Kindergarten has a new reading program, My View by Savvas which was previously the Pearson Reading Program.  We continue to use the Secret Stories program which focuses on phonics.

Implementing these programs effectively is a large task and the teachers are learning and adapting to these changes.  The Lynch Early Childhood Initiative has provided our teachers with a year long mentorship to support the implementation of the program and to support the teachers needs.  Their mentors will be coming into the classroom monthly to observe and give feedback on best practices in teaching, as well as supporting any needs the teacher may have.  We are excited for this amazing opportunity to grow as educators and support students' needs.

Communication

  • The teachers are committed to working with you and keeping a strong line of communication open.

  • Please check your email and seesaw regularly to learn about what is happening in your child’s classroom as well as your child’s blue folders.  These folders come back and forth daily and help with communication with you and your teacher.

  • We as a staff are committed and will return emails or phone calls within 24 hours to our families.

Health Reminders

  • As the fall season begins so do the sniffles. If your child is sick with a fever or other illness we ask that you keep them home for 24 hours and be fever and medication free before returning to school.

  • If your child is going to be absent please email Mrs. Manter at amanter@sacredheartkingston.com  or myself at schick@sacredheartkingston.com and your child’s teacher so we are all aware of the absence.

Reminders:
