This Sunday marks the beginning of the second week of Advent
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending us Your Son Jesus, the Prince of Peace .
Thank You for caring for us , and thank You for promising to give us your peace .
Please guard our hearts and minds with Your peace.
You know the things that have been weighing us down with worry, anxiety, or fear.
Lord, please help us fix our minds on you instead, and on your Spirit. Thank You for promising to bring us life and peace .
We can lie down and sleep, Lord, because You make us safe .
Amen
Happy Friday Afternoon,
Please let me start by offering my heartfelt appreciation to all of you for being so generous and supportive on the Day of Giving. Pledges are still coming in and being accepted. I am overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our families, teachers, alumni, vendors, and friends.
The children have had a very productive week! It isn’t easy coming back to school after five days off; I’m proud of how well our students have gotten back into the swing of things.
By now, I’m sure you have seen your child’s report card. Overall, I am very pleased. Students and teachers have had a good first trimester! We are hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences on the early dismissal day, this coming Wednesday, December 7th. Please reach out to your child’s teachers to schedule a convenient time! Most of your child’s teachers have sent out sign-up forms for you but if your child’s teacher has not, please email them to set up an appointment.
We are starting to see an increase in morning tardiness. Please try to time your arrival so you can be through the drop-off line before 7:38 to avoid needing to head to the front door. Children need to be in their seats by 7:40 for prayer and pledge time. They need to have time to settle in and get organized for their day. Arriving late disrupts a teacher’s instructional time.
We are having Mass on Thursday, December 8th, to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Mass will begin promptly at 10:30. If your child has a part in the Mass, we will email you. Many families got out of the habit of attending Sunday Mass due to COVID, and although COVID is still a factor in our lives, the world has opened up. Please consider attending Mass again. Regular attendance is a wonderful way to teach your children about your faith. We reinforce that faith at school, but deepening one’s faith through church attendance is very important. It is a wonderful experience for a family to share.
UPDATE: Christmas Concert and Nativity Pageant for students in Grades 1, 2, & 3 is coming! We are limited on space but can accommodate 4 seats per student. If you don’t need all the tickets you receive, please send them back to Mrs. Kelley in the office for families who would like more tickets. The concert will be on December 15th at 7 pm. (Please see Ms. Paine’s emails for exact details on time but Nativity Players must arrive at 6 and other performers must arrive at 6:30.) Please enter through the back drop-off door. If you require handicapped entry, please call Mrs. Kelley and we will have someone stationed at the back kitchen door. Concert tickets will go home with students in Grades 1, 2, &3 on Monday, December 5th.
In 2019, Sacred Heart launched a mini-boat, The Star of the Sea, which has been traveling the world! Please click on the link https://educationalpassages.
In mid-January, NWEA testing will happen again for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Please encourage your child to use IXL to strengthen their math, reading, language, and Spanish skills. Teachers use this as a tool in the classroom but it will also be helpful and fun at home! As always, encourage your children to read, read, and read some more during their downtime. Reading helps build vocabulary, improve writing skills, and broaden comprehension across a range of topics.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Sister Lydia
